Brazilian pork exports have nearly doubled (+95%) over the past five years and are expected to reach 921,000 mt in 2024 (+6%). These volumes would put Brazil at #5 globally, behind the U.S., Spain, Germany, and Canada. Their share of total global export volumes rose from 9% to 18% of global export volumes during the past 5 years.
Brazil’s top markets in order are now: Philippines, China, Chile, Hong Kong, and Singapore. But looking at the markets with the most growth in 2024, this chart shows some key U.S. and Canadian markets on that list: Japan, Mexico, Korea, and the Dominican Republic.
We expect further growth in Brazil’s pork production and exports. They have expanded their sow herd by 520,000 over the past 5 years and their exports by 624,000 mt.
In May 2024, Brazilian veterinary authorities declared the nation “free of foot and mouth disease without vaccination”, but it will take a year without any cases to get the blessing of the World Organization for Animal Health. Watch for that next May, barring any new FMD cases.
