Vietnam reemerges as a key market for Indian buffalo and live cattle

When looking at the presence of Indian buffalo in other key Asian markets the standouts are Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia and to a lesser extent Philippines – so if any major disruption should occur in the Middle East, each of these is likely to see increased offerings and shipments volumes of buffalo at discount prices. From an Australian live cattle exports impact, Vietnam and Indonesia are the two major markets and the Philippines and Malaysia are very minor in live cattle. So should cheap Indian buffalo flood Asia it will be   Vietnam and Indonesia live cattle trades that could be displaced.

Vietnam’s emerging role in both cattle and meat imports has this year come after the opening of China’s borders post-COVID and points to beef, cattle and further processed products     finding itself potentially back in China after significantly reduced volumes in 2020-2022 years.
